Thursdays: Bahn Mi
Bahn Mi is a Vietnamese Sandwich that blends French and Vietnamese ingredients. They are commonly filled with grilled pork, liver pate, grilled chicken, fried eggs to name a few. On this Thursday we used Gio Lua, a Vietnamese sausage.
We didn’t work off a recipe because Cindy is half Vietnamese and Soraj has been eating Bahn Mi since the early 90′s and were confident we knew how to make a decent version of one.
Here is a list of ingredients:
French Bread (from the asian market)
French Mayonnaise
Maggi Seasoning Sauce
Gi Lua sliced into thin pieces
Cucumber sliced
Daikon and Carrot Pickle
Cilantro
Jalepeno (optional)
The pickled carrot and daikon was made the night before (using this recipe). To start, you’ll have to toast the french bread in the oven. Then putting it together, cut the bread in half. Slather the french mayonnaise on one side of the sandwich and dabble some Maggi sauce on the other side. Lay out the pieces of Gio Lua, sliced cucumber, pickled daikon and carrots, cilantro and jalepeno if you like it spicy…and that’s it.
This is our place to discuss our interests in designs, lifestyle, arts, photography, eatings, etc. We are Mr. & Mrs. Pineapple Seed, Soraj and Nathiya Prathnadi.
